The Brief was to gain notoriety within 30 hours. The most successful response would win an internship at a London design agency. Fellow students and I staged the theft of a painting from the ‘National Gallery of Scotland’ and released the footage under the tagline ‘students steal art for internship’. Two of us were filmed removing a replica from the wall and carrying it out of the gallery. Within 24 hours of uploading the footage we had over 2,500 views on YouTube. We also appeared in numerous articles across the country and sparked discussions on various online forums. It was staggering how many people believed the hoax was real and are still convinced today. Our concept highlights and exaggerates the lengths that art students go to to get un-paid work experience.
